Why flying in one compass direction does not mean flying the shortest path
On a Mercator map, a route with a constant bearing looks straight and can still reach the goal. But on a globe it usually is not the shortest route: the shortest path is different.
What this mode shows
We take the direction to the goal only at the start and then never change it. On a globe, that route slowly drifts away from the goal.
